What to Expect

All are welcome to practice with us!

Newcomers should arrive five to ten minutes early. Meditation instruction is offered regularly, and private instruction may also be requested.

What it’s like

You’ll hear practical Buddhist teachings that you will find applicable to everyday life, and you’ll learn meditative techniques that can relieve stress, generate peace & calm, and allow you to begin to discover the nature of your own heart and mind.

Do I have to be a member to participate?

No, everyone is welcome, and encouraged to join all of our activities. Membership is not necessary, but donations to support our host the Sangha Center will keep us in operation.

How is the Sitting Group financed?

The sitting group supports itself solely through donations, membership dues, and program fees.

Say something about the chanting.

Chanting serves many purposes. We chant poems and verses that have been handed down because of their wisdom value. We also chant specific “seed syllables” that are valued for the quality of their sound. Blending all voices into one sound, harmonizing, and joining together are vital aspects of community practice.

Dharma Room Procedure

Arrive early. Allow time to make the transition to the dynamic stillness of the Dharma Room.

Remove noisy jewelry and digital watches, and be sure to turn off cell phones and beepers.

It is not a good idea to eat immediately before sitting.

Participate. You will find the more you give of yourself, the more your understanding will deepen.

Be diligent in your practice. Life is short; mystery is profound
